Put Some Pants On, Please
For those of you suddenly finding yourselves among the blessed who have a job that can be sent home, let’s take a moment and breathe that collective sigh of relief.
We all need to be productive. And we need to protect our mental health as best we can.
First, I want to apologize for all the flippant remarks I’ve ever made about working in my pajamas. I think I did it to seem cool. To brag that my situation was better than yours.
Sorry for the false expectations.
The truth? Working from home is hard.
You need to put on real pants.
Putting on your street clothes creates a very necessary separation between your work life and your home life.
Wearing pants with pockets (and keeping your bra on) makes the hours you designate as work hours easier to separate in your mind from your netflixing on the sofa hours.
If this is your day two and you’re still excited about the dress code changes? I get it. Just realize that when the pajama pant blues hit, they hit fast and they hit hard.
Plenty of other stuff out there to upset the mental apple cart.
Put on pants. Seriously.
P. S. Next, I’ll share with you how to host a productivity jam. They are fun and effective for getting a little human interaction and for getting a lot done.
