Your About Page Can Be Fun

I probably should have failed Home Ec but I’m pretty sure sweet Mrs. Conner had never failed anyone in her 872 years as an instructor of the simple domestic arts. I’ll admit that I managed to do pretty well in the cooking portion of the curriculum but when we got to sewing? I just about lost it. Needles. Thread. Math.

No.

To this day, I can’t even sew a button on… but that doesn’t stop me from feeling pretty aspirational about projects that require one to be able to sew. So I spend a lot of time at my local high end fabric shop ordering pillows that I won’t let my husband put his head on.

Enter the New Times where you can’t just show up places without researching their pandemic hours…and suddenly I found myself on The Fancy Fabric Store’s website.

For a business that largely operates offline, The Fancy Fabric store has a pretty nice website. Right now, they have a pop-up offer for swatches which should take some pressure off in-store browsing (it’s a pretty small space, in reality).

But what really caught my eye was their about page.

While your about page is typically the second most visited page on your website, most people still aren’t visiting it unless they have been given a compelling reason to do so.

In the case of The Fancy Fabric Store, they use their about page to introduce the professional staff and make them so fun and creative, you simply can’t wait to jump in your car and have them turn your wacky idea for pattern play into a reality.

You can tell from reading this that not only is Kristin fun, she’s ready to decorate with you no matter your style. The truth is? A lot of high end fabric stores are stuffy and intimidating. You can tell from Kristin’s bio that won’t be the case at The Fancy Fabric Store.

On my most recent visit to The Fancy Fabric Store, Ginger did solve my problem…which was how to make the last 6 yards on the planet of this particular fabric into All The Pillows. I knew from reading her bio that I was in the right place when she offered to help me.

The warmth and fun in these about page bios on the creative staff translates into a great experience in store. The Fancy Fabric Shop is really optimizing the effectiveness of their about page to give you insight into the experience of the staff who will be helping you on what is quite likely a large and expensive purchase.

People want to do business with people and this about page is all about introducing you to the people who will make your pillow (or other home decor) plans a reality.
