The Universal Image that Converts Cannibals and Customers

When it comes to websites, words matter.  But images need to pull their weight as well.

A picture, as they say, is worth a thousand words.

Making sure that the images featured on your website show smiling, happy people can have a direct correlation to how effectively your website converts visitors into customers.

Smiles are almost universally understood and what’s more?  They really are contagious.  The emotions our potential customers see on our websites are the emotions they will manifest internally through a phenomenon called “mirror neurons”.

Images should be selected to complement your web copy and be strategically placed to maximize the engagement of visitors who stop by your little piece of the internet.

Place positive imagery near calls to action whenever possible.

Images of satisfied people speak to us subconsciously and we are hard-wired to want to be a part of the success those images project. If happy people use your product or service, it stands to reason that a new visitor will likewise be happy when they chose to work with you or buy your widget.

Resist the urge to use stark images of your product or artsy images that have nothing to do with what you do.  When visitors are confused by words or imagery, they click off and you lose the opportunity to convert web traffic into dollars.

Even if you have physical products you need to showcase, whenever possible, strike a balance of product placement and customer happiness to move customers toward a buying decision.

The images we select for our websites are important but don’t forget that images can also do a lot of background work building organic reach when you focus on developing a strong image SEO strategy for your website.
